Today is going to be the second week in a row that I’ve missed going to my local church on a Sunday.

I can tell the difference.

And I’m not going to be back there for another 2 Sundays.

I miss regular encouragement to point at Jesus, friendship, challenge, songs of worship, people.

It is so easy to be distracted from Jesus when we’re not surrounded by him working.

Get going. Get back. “The local church is the hope for the world”, and sometimes it is just the hope for the day.

We had a Dreams event on Monday night in Durham this week, the thing I shared was about Unity amongst churches, that in Durham we would be one church, that we would be know as ‘The Way’ and not be separated by theology or values. I got the people there, representing 4 churches, to sing Amazing Grace together, I loved it.

That’s the way I think it should be. One church. One family.

So partly because I like people in churches other than mine, more because I think it is part of God’s plan, I want to work towards collaboration, integration, friendship and family with other churches in Durham. Not from the top, I don’t lead my church, but grassroots faith, congregations, church members.

That’s one of the things www.dreamsforgod.com is about. Grassroots faith, unity of churches, recreating ‘The Way’ (Acts 9:2).

My friend Foz (some people call him Andrew, I don’t know why) is an intern with Christian Aid. He is part of the Christian Aid Collective - that, in my book, is freaking sweet.

They publish a magazine every now and then called Do Not Tiptoe - this is also freaking sweet.

I was reading the second issue of Do Not Tiptoe and found some horrifying statistics about the way we live.

In 2011 we consumed 8 billion plastic bags. 60million (ish) of us, consumed 8 billionplastic bags. How?!. That is sick, extravagant and wrong (read why in the mag).

So here is what I’m going to do (with the 30+ bags we have in our bag bag) - I am never going to take a new plastic bag from a supermarket ever again.

If you see me with one, question where it came from - if I got it new, I’ll eat it.

That’s where I am going to start - maybe a t-shirt and good old fashioned campaigning might happen soon.

Yesterday I was reading the second chapter in Blake Mycoskie (founder of TOMS)’s book ‘Start Something That Matters’. I love it.

In one little paragraph he sums up one of the major parts of what Dreams is about…

“Almost everyone has a passion for something, but sometimes we have trouble saying what it is. It is surprisingly easy to lose touch with our true passions-sometimes because we get distracted with everyday living; sometimes simply because in the usual stream of small talk or transact able business, no one ever asks us about our Dreams”

That does it for me.

Miniature (massive) hero. My friend Greg left church before we went to the pub last night, when we walked home an hour later we bumped into him with a snow shovel digging out a footpath over the bridge from Gilesgate. This morning people are walking over it safely and quickly.

And they have no idea who cleared it for them.

Our summer missions are drawing nearer and we are looking for some young men to come along with us. In Croatia we will be running a basketball camp, in France there will be music opportunities and in Germany there will be a focus upon the local youth.

Quality couple of days. Good lads.

Team Bless get back to winning ways, recording 5 wins and a draw on the way to finishing joint second in the Rising Brook 5-a-side league.

Bless started slowly, losing their opening fixture 2-1, against a team in fancy-dress and recording a goalless draw in game two.

Match three was the big one as Bless played pre-tournament favourites and last years winners, The Rising Brook Fatties. After a feisty five minute first half Olof MATTberg scored a decisive goal to notch Bless’ first win on the tour. Full time 1-0.

With a new found confidence, Tom ‘the cat’ Gwilliam between the sticks and a taste for winning, Bless went on the win their remaining three games (4-1, 5-0 & 2-0) scoring eleven goals, including one for SNAILHAM!

Bless finished joint second on 16pts and a goal differene of +10. Congratulations to the fancy-dress wearing youths for looking ridiculous and winning the league.

Just back home after an amazing week reaping in College. My last time as a Fresher Rep after 3 years. So much fun. So little sleep. Such a bad sore throat. Quality people.
